Over the years we have found that a huge obstacle to the future economic success of the people in this rural part of Ecuador is a lack of educational opportunities post-high school. Middle and high school students living in extreme poverty are eligible for our work-study program. Many of these students are the first in their families to graduate from high school. While in this program, participants earn money through working on community service projects that are then spent on their education. Case management is provided to help students find opportunities and apply for them. The program also includes education in life skills, such as decision-making, how to apply for a job, money management, computer skills, etc.
