Child Sponsorship Program

In Ecuador, there is not a social safety net as there is in the USA. Our child sponsorship program was developed due to the extreme need of many of the children who come to READ education resource centers. The families eligible for this program struggle to survive. Children are malnourished and there are inadequate financial resources even for the most basic daily needs.

 

The goal of this program is to assist children living in extreme poverty with the essentials of adequate education, food, and shelter. We work to build success in elementary, and high school, and for those able to achieve it, post-high school education with the end goal being to help impoverished children achieve financial stability in adulthood.

Children in the Sponsorship Program

The target population is children from the ages of four to twenty-three years old who come from families with one or more of the following categories:

 

  • Single parent homes

  • Inadequate, stable source of income for the family

  • The family does not own land

  • The family does not have significant financial support from relatives

  • Parental substance abuse in the home

  • Parental or child mental/medical issues

 

All applicants receive a home visit and an interview as part of the application process.

Funds from this program will be spent on educational expenses, nutrition, shelter, and healthcare needs. A case manager is assigned to each family to make needed purchases and to keep informed about changing needs.

100 % of your donation goes to the child's needs.

READ handles all administration costs.

Support is used primarily, but not exclusively for:

  • Educational needs

  • Health and nutritional needs of the total family

  • Clothing

  • Housing

Sponsors receive the child's name and information along with quarterly updates from the child.
