The Communities READ Serves
We work with agrarian societies of both indigenous and mestizo ethnic backgrounds. In this increasingly technological world, our clients struggle to keep up, especially adults. Many people did not have the opportunity to finish primary school. We tailor each of our two education resource centers to the community’s individual needs and hire staff from the community READ serves two communities in the province of Cotopaxi, in the counties of Pilalo and La Esperanza. In each of these communities, there is a READ education resource center, the main center in Macuchi and the other in Apahua.
Our free services include internet access, lending books, computer classes, assistance navigating the internet, a work-study program, assistance with homework and school projects, a child sponsorship program, and various educational programs for children and adults. We coordinate with other agencies whenever possible to broaden the services provided through our facilities.

Brenda Griswald Library
Macuchi
Brenda has been an integral part of READ since the beginning. As the first Chair of the Board, she was a huge force in establishing the READ libraries, building the first library, raising funds, organizing trips, and setting the way for the success of READ.
She continues to give sound advice and support READ in many ways. In 2022, the Macuchi Library was named for her love of the children in our communities, her inspiration, and her dedication to the mission of READ.
